Lugawan Republic - The Best Lugaw in Town

Lugaw - Rice Porridge usually cooked with chicken or pork tripe. It comes with boiled egg, toasted garlic and freshly cut onion springs.

Lugaw is one of my cheap thrills in Manila especially when it is raining. It is sold everywhere especially in carinderias (canteens) and even in restaurants. It is best when it is served hot with tokwa and soysauce. YUM YUM YUM!

Last Thursday, Allan, introduced Lugawan Republic to us. I was shocked because it is one of the most expensive lugaws ever. It is almost the same as that with the Chinese Congee in Chinese restaurants.

I ordered Pilugaw (Php 95). It is a combination of Pancit Palabok and Lugaw. The base is lugaw but with some noodles & mixed palabok sauce, quail eggs, garlic, spring onion, mushroom and chicken Sounds weird eh?


If you enjoy spicy food, then Goto Hell (Php 90) is a must try. It is an original recipe of owner Gladys Guevarra. I haven't tasted it, but Allan described it as uber SPICY!



You can also order the Basic Lugaw (Php 60). And choose from a wide variety of toppings such as litid, chicken adobo, kamto and century egg.

You should order Fish and Chips (Php 140). Chips are salted deep fried Kamote (Sweet Potatoes).

Other specialties include Calamares, Chicken Fingers, Chuch Okoy and Crispy Tofu.
