Being Alone

If you really know me, you’d realize that I am the queen of maps and directions.

I do not get lost even if it’s my first time to set foot in a foreign place.

All I need is a good map, iPod, money and prepaid credits.

Dad has always been proud in my ability to remember the places I’ve been to even if I have just visited it once. I have this very keen sense of direction that made everybody go wander around with me in any foreign place. Yes, I am that brave. I want to go out alone. Be it at 9 AM or 12 AM. I don’t care.

There was too much work in the reunion center during my first few days. My meal times weren’t normal because we just can’t leave our station. People come and go anytime and they need the badges from me or Sandy.

I asked them if I could go out on my own. I don’t want to ask the Chinese volunteers to go with me because they also have other things to do. They didn’t allow me at first because they’re afraid I might end up going somewhere really scary. The persistent bitch in me made them say yes.

I left at 8 AM and got back by 4 PM just in time to watch an Olympic game with Dr. Marc Daniel.

I did the same thing 5 years ago when I was in Tokyo. I left our hotel at 9 AM and got back around 7 PM. I just wandered around Tokyo and figured the city out by just riding the most complicated subway system in the world.

I made my itinerary while having breakfast at the nearest Starbucks. They provide the most amazing map ever. It was very friendly for adventurous women like me. Men wouldn’t understand it because it has drawings and sometimes men really suck with map and directions. Hehe… I ended up getting many copies and gave these to our colleagues (former Olympians) back at the reunion center.

I went to Lama temple by riding a cab. I ended up telling him where to turn right or left and make a u-turn or whatsoever. He didn’t understand where I wanted to go. So I just figured the map out and told him the directions one at a time.

Lama Temple

After Lama Temple, I went to Forbidden City by riding the subway. I had to change trains from Line 5 to Line 1. There were 8 stations all in all. There weren’t much foreigners in the subway. The locals were all looking at me because I kept on counting the station lights, so I will not miss my stop.

Forbidden City was HELL big. I was walking for 2 hours or so. Sandy told me to just go straight from North to South gate or the other way around. I should not turn right or left, else I’ll get lost. The hardheaded bitch in me did not follow her. I went AROUND! When I felt that I couldn’t see the exit gate anymore, I looked for the information center. Just to realize this.

After 2 hours of walking under the scorching heat, I was only at the red spot. 2 HOURS. It was big. I was alone and asking people to take my pictures. After realizing that and a couple of profanity, I told myself to just go straight.

Forbidden City

I got out after an hour. Sweaty, Smelly and Tired.

I looked for the subway and went to Wangfujing. After a few minutes I decided to go back since I had to watch an event and had to meet up with Marc at the hotel.

Got off at Tuanjiehu station and rode the cab since it was so far if I had to walk back and I smelled like rubbish already.

Days after my adventure, I am the one telling the cab driver or Sandy as to which station we should get off, where to go, how to go there and whatever. Hao and Sk (our local friends) were so shocked when they learned that. I even know the nearest Starbucks stores in the hotel. I know which malls have Adidas, Zara and Mango. I know how to go to Silk Market, Tiananmen Square, Olympic Village, Airport, Yashow Market, Hooters, Hou Hai, CCTV Building and Wangfujing. I can go there without the map.

Fabulous diba? So if you need a tour guide in Beijing you know who to call.

On elevators

My ultimate Ice lolly favorite is Twin Popsies Orange Flavor. I have been eating it since I was in grade school
.
There's this new store in our building that sells the Orange flavor (Mini Stop doesn't have this flavor kasi). I bought one pack and decided to enjoy it inside the elevator.

I was enjoying my ice lolly. I was enjoying every centimeter of it.

I was licking it all around.
I was biting the side.
My eyes were smiling.

Little did I know, that there were only 2 people in the elevator. Me and an American.
Since I was so concentrating with my Ice lolly, I did not notice that the American was staring at me.

He was smiling.

I stopped munching and licking.
Got off the elevator.
And finished my twin popsies in the pantry. I closed the door so no one would see.

Nuff said

Off to Beijing on Sunday

I was told last Wednesday afternoon that I need to go to Beijing for PR and marketing purposes of the project we deployed there for the Olympics.

Already got my Chinese Visa. I already have my ticket and my flight will be on Sunday really early morning.

Hopefully I could access multiply and blogspot from China.

I'll be back after the Olympics.

I love it that I'm going. But my credit card and wallet will surely hate it.

Believe me. When I come back, Zero balance nanaman ako.

Shem.

Don't worry, I'll take pictures. Ako pa!

Copycat

I happened to watch PROJECT RUNWAY PHILIPPINES for the first time last night.

I am a fan of the REAL one. I love Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn and I love the show.

However, the Pinoy version is a disappointment.

They copied the original series up to the smallest detail.

  • The credentials of the panel of judges
  • The way Teresa Hererra presented reminded me of Klum's pitch and tone.
  • The way Jojie Lloren crticized reminded me of Gunn's sarcastic style.
  • The personalities of the designer are pretty much the same with the western version.
  • Even the challenges they're giving the designers are the SAME.
Question....
Do they really speak that way?

Y'all know that they're planning to bring Gossip Girl in Philippine primetime right?
As expected EVERYTHING will be copied again.

Pinoys are known to be artistic and innovative. Is it true?

Prove it.

Lately...

... I've been eating cerelac.

Chiqui and Allan talked me into this and I'm buying a box later.
You see, when I was still a baby, mum was patient mashing boiled carrots, potatoes, sayote and sweet potatoes for Ja and I. We never tasted Gerber nor Cerelac.

Now that I'm 23 (Yes, I am already this old), I am addicted to it. Kung kelan ako tumanda saka nasarapan dito. gee.

Thank you very much.

Tsk.

Goosebumps

Of course you've watched the opening of the Olympics 2008. If you haven't, look for a replay.

One word.

AMAZING!

I had goosebumps all through out. I'm sure there is a LOT of pressure to the organizers of the next Olympics in London.

My favorite performance was the first one were there were hundreds of drummers doing hundreds of wonderfully coordinated hand gestures.

Gaga over flats

You know that I am 5'7 and I'm tall compared to the average height of a PINAY. So, I seldom use pumps, wedge or anything with heels. I have a lot of these though.

Currently I've been raving for really really flat strappy sandals. I've been wanting to buy the perfect gladiator sandals but I can't find it in the local shoe stores in the metro.

Before leaving for Fontana in a few minutes, I will post what I have seen in the Nine West website and maybe, just maybe I'll buy a pair.

Take your pick.
I already have a similar one. I bought it at Celine.

Haaaay, I wish I could win the lottery. So I could buy all these. Plus the pairs I saw at Topshop.

Lambasting UP

What's up with non-UP people why in the freaking world they're so bitter to UP-ians.

Roma sent me this link a few minutes ago. Here's the whole entry.

UP Students: Fake Scholars

UP students are not supposed to be called “Iskolar ng Bayan” (Scholar of the Nation). They are “paying scholars”. If you are paying more or less PHP 21, 000, would you really feel that you are indeed a “Iskolar ng Bayan”? Upon enrollment, UP students get in line to pay for their tuition holding wads of cash roughly four times thicker than those from New Era University would pay for. I am sure that we don’t need figures, charts, and statistics to prove the veracity of my claim.

Had it been somebody from PUP, PLM, PNU, TUP, or any state university/college who boasted himself as “Iskolar ng Bayan”, I am inclined to agree. Otherwise, if it’s from UP who claims such, I will maintain the same incredulous revulsion.

Braggart, think twice! Admit it or not, you don’t deserve to be called “Iskolar ng Bayan”… in the true sense of the word.

---
Just a few comments to the blogger named Dennis
(1) Sino ka?
(2) Graduate ka ng what school ulit? New Era right?

(3) U sure u passed UPCAT? Why didn't you enroll in UP?
(4) Nice way to have more hits in your blog.
(5) Where is all the hatred coming from? Bumagsak ka naman ata eh.
(6)
anyone has the right to react the way UP-ians did in that blog. Reading an article where your own Alma Mater (be it ADMU, DLSU or even NEW ERA) being lambasted will make an impetus for people to at least give their opinion and defend their own school brutally or scholarly.

Yun lang.

Read it. Here is the link. http://ramblingsofdennis.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/up-students-fake-scholars/

December 13 Birthday Astrology

Eccentricity marks the personality of a Sagittarius born on December 13 . They see risks as signposts to challenges. They have enormous confidence yet can admit when they are wrong. When it comes to leadership ability, they are second to none, though that role seldom appeals to their sense of fun.

Sagittarius Information for December 13

Make-believe, learning, maturity

You should avoid:
Sensationalism, imitation, dissemblers
Friends and Lovers

They are honest in their relationships and never try to manipulate. If they are unhappy with a relationship they say so -- and move on without guilt.

Children and Family

Because of their unconventional ideas, December 13 individuals don't always get on well with family members. But true to their broad-minded nature, they never disparage others. Their liberal views don't change when they have children. They want their youngsters to experience life on their own terms.

Health

Anything goes regarding health maintenance for these quirky people. Nutrition is a source of endless change and challenge. They have probably tried every diet on the market. Yet they do have an interest in good nutrition.

Career and Finances

December 13 natives excel in technology-oriented careers. They are amazing in their handling of money. They are the original entrepreneurs. It's not uncommon for them to market an idea, make a fortune, then lose it in another risky enterprise.

Dreams and Goals

December 13 people want to have it all and do it all and don't mind if they have to suffer the consequences. They value experience -- not the weighty kind -- but the in-the-moment variety. They are powered by ideas -- their mind is in a constant state of flux.

After reading this I was puzzled because everything is soooo true.

What's your sign? Check if it fits you then give me a holler.
